Cpt. Chad Abel
Chad is a 30-year veteran of the fire service
and has served at several paid and volunteer departments.
He holds certification in firefighting, hazardous materials, and technical rescue. Chad became an Emergency Medical Technician in 1991 and has been a licensed Paramedic since 1995. He has served with both rural and urban ambulance services.
He is a full-time fire captain with the Fishers Fire Department in Indiana. Chad is currently assigned to a Ladder truck and manages one of 6 firehouses in Fishers. He served 12 years as Division Chief of Training and several years on the Board of Directors for the Indiana Fire Instructors Association, including 4 years as President. He has developed many training programs and assessment guides for the fire service.
Chad served a tactical paramedic for law enforcement special operations teams for 13 years.
He started tactical paramedic programs for Hamilton County Sheriff Department (IND) Special Emergency Response Team and Fishers Police Department Emergency Response Team. He has provided EMS skills in high risk incidents
Since 2005 Chad has worked with Grace Community Church as a Safety Coordinator.
Grace Community Church currently has a membership of approximately 10,000 people with campuses in Fishers, North Indy, Bloomington (IND), London, and Sydney, Australia. He was asked to become a part of the team as the fire and EMS advisor to the church. Chad helped create emergency guidelines for Grace that encompass plans for fire, EMS, suspicious packages, and weather events.
Chad has three teenage children. He enjoys spending time with his kids and volunteering his time working with juvenile burn survivors.
